CoinSpice.io hasn’t really taken sides in the Bitcoin Cash (BCH) Hash War, but we have been collecting memes along the way from partisans. Everyone gets burned, even our heroes and close friends. No one is spared. Take a break from the posturing and nonsense, and have a laugh. Sure billions in market value is being pissed away, but at least we got some dank memes out of the deal.
Hash War Memes and Parodies
Evolutionary biologist Richard Dawkins coined the neologism, meme. It is a play on genes, as in the way genes replicate and further themselves through bodily hosts. The same, Dawkins reasoned, can be analogized through ideas. They mate too, rejigger themselves to create ever-new ideas, some good, some bad, but mutations all the same.
Memes are the idea version of genes. Known for their comic relief, often biting and satirical, full of inside information, they can easily convey library shelves worth of important ideas often in just one carefully crafted image.
The cryptocurrency community took memetics instantly. Initially used to foil early Bitcoin critics, they’ve since turned into hilarious ways to punk rivals, to make fun of ecosystem celebrities and generally to remind us to fucking chill.
They’ve become too a Rorschach test to ferret out humorless actors in the space. Often repeating their cliches and jingoisms back to them is enough to disarm more cultish self-appointed leaders. The veneer of sophistication and authority gets smashed with just a clever image and surrounding text.
