Facebook Seeks to Launch GlobalCoin During 2020
Facebook is planning to launch its own cryptocurrency project during the next year, according to a report published by the BBC. Known internally as “GlobalCoin,” it will most likely be a stablecoin that will use Facebook and Facebook-owned platforms like WhatsApp and Instagram to establish payment channels. Mark Zuckerberg has met with Bank of England Governor Mark Carney and with US Treasury officials to seek advice and operational help in adapting a Facebook cryptocurrency to legal guidelines.
Telegram Crypto Project to Start During Q3 2019
One of the most anticipated crowdfunded cryptocurrency projects, dubbed TON (Telegram Open Network) will supposedly be ready to launch during the third quarter of this year, according to an internal note sent investors. Telegram was one of the ICOs that attracted the most attention last year due to the company’s vast influence and reach. TON is a distributed blockchain network designed to run Ethereum-like dapps, with the convenience of being tied to a messaging service.
Kraken Raises $9.5 Million, Updates Goal
San Francisco-based crypto exchange Kraken managed to raise more than $9.5 million from investors. The first goal was to raise around $10 million, and due to the response has been upped to more than $15 million, according to its BnkToTheFuture campaign.
Binance Margin Trading Imminent

Popular crypto exchange Binance subtly revealed that margin trading is already available for selected beta testers on their platform. The company tweeted a set of screenshots of their interface, inadvertantly showing margin trading options. A Binance representative confirmed margin trading is coming “soon” in an interview with TechCrunch.
Dai Now Available on Coinbase
Stablecoin Dai is now available to trade and hold on crypto exchange Coinbase. While other stablecoins claim to be backed in fiat currency, Dai is collateralized in the form of Maker, a currency serving both as a governance token and a collateral asset to the stablecoin.
Russian Authorities Try to Hack Journalists’ Telegram Accounts
Pavel Durov, the founder and CEO of Telegram, announced via his own channel in the Telegram network that the Russian Government tried to hack the accounts of 4 journalists covering the Ekaterinburg protests. The protests were against the rebuilding of the historic church of St. Catherine at a park in the city. However, these hack attempts were defeated because the accounts had 2FA security enabled. Durov stated this was a “reminder that authoritarian governments will stop at nothing to violate their citizens’ privacy.”
