Google, Apple Review an App Used to Control Saudi Women
Absher, an app designed for men to exert control over “guarded” women, is causing distress among human rights groups and even US senators. Both Google and Apple are being encouraged to review the app and remove it from their stores. The app lets men control and monitor the actions of Saudi Arabian women, and even get notifications if they are trying to leave the country.
JP Morgan Will Create Its Own Stablecoin
JP Morgan, one of the biggest banking organizations in the world, announced today they will create a cryptocurrency of their own. Dubbed “JPM Coin,” it will be a stablecoin pegged to the US dollar that will have several key functions in the organization. It will be used for international payment settlements, for securities transactions, and for treasury services. It will be rolled out in the next months in a trial run that will allow for a small percentage of their operations use the coin.
Miners Have Turned to Financial Markets for Survive
Miners and investors that are highly invested in cryptocurrencies are now knocking at Wall Street doors to keep afloat during this bear market. With mining prices higher than the market price of Bitcoin in some cases, these unlucky guys have turned to derivative market instruments, also known as call options. Many of the miners who entered the 2017 bull market are now desperate to pay for losses.
Digital Asset Loses CTO, Again
Cryptocurrency startup Digital Asset has lost yet another CTO in less than six months with the departure of James Powell, an executive who had held previous senior positions in companies like Thomson-Reuters. According to Digital Asset, Powell did not fit well with the startup attitude of the company. Last year, then CTO Blythe Masters also left due to personal reasons, ending an era for the company. Shaul Kfir is reportedly now assuming CTO responsibilities.
Ethereum Blockchain Transactions Hit Lows
Ethereum blockchain transactions have decreased by more than 90% since a year ago. This is related to the bear market in ICOs and dApps. Last year both were still in the spotlight, at least for the ethereum blockchain. However, it appears more money is going toward exchange transactions, as investors seem more interested in pure speculative trading.
