Bitcoin SV on Life Support, Drops from Top 10
After months of bluster, tough talk, mounting lawsuits against open source devs, Bitcoin SV (BSV) dropped from the top 10 cryptocurrencies by market cap behind Binance Coin (BNB) at time of publication. A change in its OP_RETURN capability apparently allowed child porn to be uploaded on its chain, and developers have been sounding the alarm. That, combined with their much touted and hyped merger between CoinGeek and Squire being dogged by exiting CEOs and negotiations pushed back, has resulted in a seemingly never-ending price drop for the coin. Prices, however, are fickle, and are not the full measure of any project.
Kraken Exchange Diversifies, Acquires Futures Firm
Popular crypto exchange Kraken acquired a derivatives firm called Crypto Facilities to presumably offer futures at some point. CEO Jesse Powell has already declared they are integrating part of firm to strengthen its cryptocurrency trading products and capture more institutional investors through future contracts. They also commented it was a nine-figure deal, but did not specify the concrete amount.
Bcoin Allows to Run a Bitcoin Full Node in Your Browser
A new project has risen that will let users run a full node essentially just by opening a browser webpage, letting the blockchain sync. Based on Bcoin, a full node implementation written in node.js, running the page will use CU, bandwidth, and disk space to validate the blockchain. It might also mean this implementation will allow a bitcoin full node on smartphones at some point.
Coinbase 2019 Cryptocurrency Tax Guide
Coinbase updated their 2017 guide for paying cryptocurrency and bitcoin taxes in the United States. It attempts to answer all frequently asked questions crypto traders have about paying taxes, how to determine if you need to pay taxes, and also how to do it in a simple way.
Edward Snowden Praises ZCash Team
A lot of people wonder why I like #Zcash despite the Founder's Reward. Here's a reason: that tax funds a quality team that catches and kills serious bugs in-house, before they get exploited. Some other projects learn about bugs like this only AFTER people have lost money. https://t.co/i9MD1CpeNx
— Edward Snowden (@Snowden) February 5, 2019
Edward Snowden, the uber-popular NSA whistleblower, described why he loves ZCash: the architecture of the coin lends itself to having a strong development team. This lets them identify and fix bugs before these get exploited. ZCash addressed a bug that, if leveraged correctly, would allow counterfeited cryptocurrency. Snowden clarified he has not been paid to shill any coin, and the only thing he loves is truly private trading.
Google Wants to Make Blockchains Searchable
A new project being run by Google, called blockchain ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) aims to be the scope for big business and investors to see the real state of cryptocurrencies in real time. Bagholders and transactions, all can be seen. This utility is started by uploading the whole info of Bitcoin and Ethereum blockchains into BigQueray, a big data analytics platform, and then designed software to browse. Although Google is still playing catch-up, it is doing it fairly quickly compared to other analytic tools.
