Tether Stablecoin Only Backed 74%
Tether, the company behind USDT, the most popular stablecoin available in the cryptocurrency market, recognized only 74% of the circulating supply is backed by cash or securities in a response to the State of New York over accusations Tether and Bitfinex face. Previously, in their reserve terms, they claimed every USDT available to the market was backed fully by cash, securities or other values.
Messari Claims Discrepancy on XRP Inflation Numbers
Messari released a new research piece that found discrepancies in the number of XRP Ripple states are on the market. It seems Ripple understated the inflation of its circulating supply, with this study concluding total XRP available on the market increased 11.5% compared to the 4.5 percent the own company disclosed. Cryptocurrency Subreddit Tries Source Filtering
After what some have called an epidemic of bot news, r/cryptocurrency, one of the most popular crypto related subreddits, decided to take a shot at filtering sources, just allowing posts linking to a series of sites whitelisted by the mods, with other ones being automatically retired from the site. The mod responsible for this, SamsungGalaxyPlayer, stated, “This is only a test, and we are doing everything we can to make the transition as seamless as possible.”
Warrantless Searches Increased 28% During 2018
Data released by the Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI) indicates warrantless searches for American telecom data increased by 28% from 2017. The information states 9,637 warrantless searches on Americans’ messages, calls and emails were conducted during 2018, up from mere 7,512 during 2017. This info just accounts for NSA searches, leaving out other searches conducted by other intelligence agencies like the FBI and DEA.
Bitfinex Changes BAB Ticker to BCH for Bitcoin Cash

Bitfinex, one of the most important cryptocurrency exchanges, changed the ticker (the symbol that identifies a currency on its platform) of Bitcoin Cash from BAB to the more traditional BCH. This BAB ticker was adopted by several exchanges after the hard fork that happened last year, with Bitcoin SV holding the BSV ticker, and BAB representing the original BCH implementation.
CoinMarketCap Turns 6 Years Old
Coinmarketcap, the leading site in cryptocurrency prices and volumes, reached its sixth birthday, and is announcing a series of revamps and new initiatives under their banner. The first one is DATA, a project to further transparency and accountability. Also, they will offer their own block explorers for Bitcoin and Ethereum, open a dedicated CMC merchandise shop, and release the new version of their mobile app now available also on Android next April 15.
