Billionaire ‘Shark’ Marc Cuban’s NBA Team Dallas Mavericks Accepts Bitcoin Cash, BTC via BitPay

TL;DR: Billionaire Mark Cuban, perhaps best known for his appearances on the financial reality show, Shark Tank, also owns professional basketball team the Dallas Mavericks (Mavs). Recently, the Mavs announced they’re accepting Bitcoin Cash (BCH) and BTC through popular payments provider, BitPay.

When NBA Rookie of the Year Luka Dončić and his Dallas Mavericks take home court against the Washington, DC Wizards in late October to begin their 2019-2020 season, some of those ticket holders might’ve paid with bitcoin cash or BTC.

“The Mavs will utilize the service provider BitPay to process all Bitcoin purchases,” the cheered on their website. “BitPay, the largest bitcoin payment processor in the world, offers the Dallas Mavs’ global fans a seamless experience to purchase tickets and merchandise with the Bitcoin Cryptocurrency.”

Owner Marc Cuban is no stranger to cryptocurrency, having commented on the phenomenon for years, sometimes in praise and at other times with moments of scorn. He’s actually dipped his financial toes into crypto-adjacent, however, by investing in startups such as the 1confirmation venture capital fund and Unikrn, an esports betting and news media company.

The Mavs are actually the second NBA team to go down the BitPay road, as the Sacramento Kings were the first back in 2014. “The Dallas Mavericks are now just the second team in the NBA to accept Bitcoin, a form of cryptocurrency,” the team acknowledged, “as a method of payment for game tickets and merchandise.” Cuban assured the team wants its “fans who would like to pay with Bitcoin the opportunity to do so. BitPay allows our global fans to seamlessly make purchases with the Mavs.”
