TL;DR: The logic of cryptocurrency is to work outside established systems, to attempt something new, rebuild. Gabriel Scheare, as co-founder of Fort Galt in Valdivia, Chile, tired of theory. As a result, five years ago he made his way to Chile, joining a startup society based around libertarian principles and cryptocurrency. The story takes many twists and turns, but ends in Scheare breaking ground recently on a project many thought impossible. Fort Galt Co-Founder Gabriel Scheare
CoinSpice reported on the recent guilty plea of Morgan Rockoons, dragging the idea of cryptocurrency and building an independent microsociety through the mud. Rockoons wasn’t the first, and for sure won’t be the last. Just ask Gabriel Scheare.
Scheare was something of a victim (my word) in an early scheme, Galt’s Gulch. The subdivisions were too small to be legal, however, and much of what remained was protected by the government — the group was selling land it didn’t own. The parallels to Rockoons are ominous.
That was five years and $10 million ago, and I have to tell you I would’ve gone home, done with the whole idea. Not Scheare. He stayed, and attempted to bring the idea forward even with all the stink.
He and his partners have secured a 100 acres of land with options to expand along it, almost pay-as-you go. They’re able to sell bits at a time, turnkey. And it’s selling. With models up and running, the idea just might sell itself.
Again, there’s a ton more to the story, as I hope you’ll listen.
