CoinSpice and Chill: Debating Booth Babes and Sex Selling Crypto

TL;DR: Welcome to the inaugural CoinSpice and Chill. Hosts Eléonore Blanc, Emily Dallara, and C. Edward Kelso have a wealth of experience in the cryptocurrency ecosystem — hackathons, marketing campaigns, and news. Between the three, listeners can get a sense of crypto scenes from Asia (Emily), Europe (Eléonore), and the United States (Edward). This time around, they’re debating Andreas Antonopoulos’ call to ban booth babes, women used as decorations at conferences. CoinSpice and Chill: Booth Babes

Andreas Antonopoulos appeared to lay down a personal law, refusing, contractually, to attend any conference using booth babes, attractive women as decorations. Booth babes are fixtures at car shows and various industry conventions, but as the crypto ecosystem seeks simultaneously to be taken seriously and attract more women, the honeypot marketing idea isn’t sitting well for some.

For sure, a great deal of attendees simply shrug them off or smile, maybe even politely shake their heads, and really don’t think much of the sales technique either way. Blanc, Dallara, and Kelso get into the subject, and try and tackle it from every known side.

Blanc is the most concerned of the three, and it’s probably due to her actually being on the ground at conferences and crypto education events. She helped organize hackathons, and so perhaps having half-naked women might distract from whatever event goal.

Dallara is in-between. She’s concerned to the level she needs to be, but doesn’t mind booth babes so much — she thinks of them as fun, but also holds out hope crypto literate and savvy booth babes could some day be a reality.

It’s a fun discussion, and not a bad way to spend part of your evening, chilling with CoinSpice.
