CRYPTO DEV DIGEST: Eth 2 Research AMA, Electron Cash Gets CashAccounts, CashShuffle 100K

TL;DR: So much development is happening in the cryptocurrency ecosystem. It can be difficult to keep up. Crypto Dev Digest (CDD) is a CoinSpice attempt to document all the coolness abounding.

Crypto Dev Digest: Ethereum 2.0 Research Team AMA

Our dev digest this week begins with a recent Ask Me Anything (AMA) from the Ethereum 2.0 research team. It’s actually part two, and comments stretch out into the many hundreds, as those interested in the project clamor for more detail about scaling and other issues.

Asked, “What do you feel is the biggest unsolved challenge left in Eth 2.0 research which must be addressed before Phase 1 or Phase 2 could be implemented in the future?” co-founder Vitalik Buterin answered, “I really honestly think that there are no unsolved research challenges at this point. It’s mostly ‘how do we make this thing more elegant and take up fewer lines of code and have fewer edge cases’ on the research side.”

When pressed about the shifting 2.0 release dates, developer Carl Beekhuizen laughed, “Thanks for noting its informality. 🙂 Launching early next year is my personal target, but there is a lot that needs to be done before then! We need: long-running test nets (however that is defined), formal verification of the deposit contract, and clients to be ready for prime time, but right now it looks like everything will come together in time. We also don’t want to rush clients into developing buggy software just to be ready by an arbitrary date.”

  • Electron Cash Integrates CashAccounts

According to u/imaginary_username, “CashAccounts type 1 (P2PKH) and type 2 (P2SH) integration. type 4 (stealth) spec still in the works. For the uninitiated, check out the CashAccounts project page. Secure, trustless verification of account bindings via Electrumx servers. Redundant checking of lookup servers. Built-in registration support, not dependent on lookup servers. Add CasAccounts to the Contacts tab. Emojis as checksum… did I mention emojis? Yes. Fukkin’ emojis.”

  • Non-Custodial Escrow on Bitcoin Cash with Jeton Lib

“The new OP_CHECKDATASIG and OP_CHECKDATASIGVERIFY opcodes added to Bitcoin Cash in the November 2018 upgrade hard fork allow for interesting new forms of transactions,” writes Vin Armani. “In this article, I explore one such transaction type: multi-party escrow with a “blind” referee (also called an “oracle”). I also propose a new transaction standard, Pay To Escrow Script (P2ES), to describe this transaction type. I have released an extension to the popular Bitcore Node.js module, bitcore-lib-cash. This module, called Jeton Lib allows easy construction and spending of P2ES transactions.sfsf
