TL;DR: Crypto Dev Digest (CDD) is a regular column, documenting cryptocurrency development, highlighting the projects and persons working under the hood. This installment of the digest is jam-packed. ShapeShift opens its HD wallet library. Bitcoin Cash devs ready for the November 15, 2019 upgrade. CashScript continues to rock. TipBitcoinCash is bought out by the SPICE token team. Running a Lightning Network node deemed too costly to justify, and so much more happening in the development world.
ShapeShift Open Sourced HD Wallet Library
“With HDWallet,” the ShapeShift exchange team posted, “your code can make one call to the HDWallet interface, and depending on the wallet you are connected to, HDWallet will translate that call to the specifications that each wallet type requires.”
Apparently, they “faced the issue of interfacing with wallets from a variety of vendors,” as applications wishing “to interface with multiple wallets need to build an integration to each wallet. This means for every call you want to make, such as getting an address or signing a transaction, you have to write new code for each wallet. We ran into this problem while building the new ShapeShift Platform, our interface for buying, trading, tracking, and hodling crypto assets across multiple hardware wallets.”
Their solution is in having “built the HDWallet abstraction layer. We believe in following DRY (don’t repeat yourself) coding practices and simple design. With HDWallet, your code can make one call to the HDWallet interface, and depending on the wallet you are connected to, HDWallet will translate that call to the specifications that each wallet type requires.”

BIP32 Key Extension and Master Pub
Does anyone actually *use* the "master public key" feature of BIP32 key extension? The "master public key + child private key = master private key" issue seems really dangerous, wondering if anyone has a usecase where it's been used safely.

Nimbus and BCH
Nimbus allows smart contract developers to focus on building solutions, not circumventing $BCH's limitations, while sacrificing none of its strenghts.

Crescent Cash v1.8.2 Released
According to developer pokkst, he’s recently “released Crescent Cash v1.8.2 to both https://crescent.cash, and the Google Play Store. This update adds multiple new SLP token icons for the Android version, and adds sound effects for sending and receiving coins. If you’ve ever used the schildbach wallet, then you’ve heard these extremely satisfying sounds before.”
Cost, Time to Maintain LN Getting Hard to Justify
Our lnd node is using a lot of bandwidth, almost double Core. The cost and time to maintain LN is getting hard to justify, considering current sales revenue from LN payments.
