The estate of Colombian drug kingpin Pablo Escobar has resorted to an initial coin offering (ICO) in hopes of raising $50 million to impeach United States President Donald Trump. Just days ago, the effort was an online crowdfunding campaign through popular platform GoFundMe. After being kicked off, the Impeach Trump Fund has taken to its own cryptocurrency, the ESCOBAR.
Impeach Trump Fund Launches ICO After GoFundMe Censors $50 Million Efforts
Roberto De Jesús Escobar Gaviria, Founder of Escobar Inc, and Pablo Escobar’s older brother, explained, “There will be one day when you can use cryptocurrency for all types of payments. Such as houses, cars and even chewing gum. That day is yesterday, now it is time to have a secure alternative to the USD – The ESCOBAR cryptocurrency token is designed as this.”
The website proper details, “We’ve built a platform to compete with other stablecoins. ESCOBAR token is the future of stablecoins,” as a way to “raise money for the Impeach Trump Fund cause, where a GoFundMe fundraiser was shut down and censored. Thanks to cryptocurrencies, there are no boundaries to be censored!”
The ICO claims to be used for the Fund but also in conjunction with “the development of ESCOBAR token and its success.” It is an ERC20 token, which began sales on 9 January 2019 and will end 10 May 2019, with 200,000,000 ESCOBAR (20%) tokens for sale. All cryptos are accepted and there are no minimum amounts required. It claims to have already raised millions independent of the ICO.
London, Beverly Hills, Belize, Puerto Rico
The campaign assumes most people of the world are interested in impeaching Donald Trump, a technical legal process involving a vote of the US House of Representatives and then a trial by the US Senate, and also assumes only Escobar’s brother is capable if he has the financial resources to lobby lawmakers.
Donations by check are given a Beverly Hills address, the tokens are issued from London, and ESCOBAR can be redeemed through a company in Belize. There appear to be offices associated with the Fund in Puerto Rico as well.
“Some of the funds will be used to legally obtain intelligence which could make an impeachment possible,” a donation page insists. “Some of the funds raised will be used to pay for professional lobbyists to go against Donald Trump. Some of the funds will be paid to a law firm to handle communications with Washington & others to get Trump impeached.”
