PODCAST From Token Skeptic to Believing Bitcoin Cash’s Future is SLP: Vin Armani Explains his Postage Protocol

TL;DR: Vin Armani of CoinText and Counter Markets has officially gone from an early SLP token skeptic to a believer in its ability to drive adoption for Bitcoin Cash (BCH). In fact, he’s come up with a solution to a common user experience complaint about tokenization: having to employ another step to move them. Armani calls his answer the Simple Ledger Postage Protocol. Simple Ledger Postage Protocol: A Token Ecosystem Upgrade

Vin Armani began as publicly doubting how impactful SLP tokens would be with regard to Bitcoin Cash. The peer-to-peer electronic cash community is laser-focused on adoption, and for the better part of the last two years that has meant making sure BCH is used and accepted by merchants and cryptocurrency enthusiasts.

The tokenization boom, characterized best in the form of Ethereum’s ERC20 token derivatives, led to initial coin offerings (ICOs) and a well-earned reputation for scams. It got so awful, a point of pride in the BCH world was not having the lure of tokens at all. They just seemed to invite bad actors.

The Simple Ledger Protocol (SLP) changed all that. It added more functionality to the BCH chain, highlighting the differences between Ethereum and Bitcoin Cash in terms of token creation ease and fast, cheap, reliable transactions.

What kept Armani from a full-throated endorsement of the SLP idea, even as the BCH tokens began to gain traction and organic use cases, was the problem ERC20 had with regard to what’s known as gas. To move an ERC20 token, there is yet another step involved, friction, which seemed to limit UX in such a way as to slow adoption momentum. Those problems were brought over to BCH as well with invention of SLP. Armani believes he’s come up with a novel, win-win solution, and he goes in-depth during this episode.
