PODCAST Mises vs Marx: The March of History

TL;DR: John Papola is our guest, and he’s the head of a production company, Emergent Order, best known for their groundbreaking video, Fear the Boom and Bust. It went viral about a decade ago, and while that’s far from unique, the fact that it was an economics video featuring an ideological battle between Keynes and Hayek should tell you Papola knows how to educate and entertain. He’s onto a new muse, a new debate, Mises vs Marx, and boy is it a great time to consider those giants in particular. Mises vs Marx: The March of History

In the United States, home to supposed freer market assumptions, socialism is again gaining steam. Politicians such as Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Bernie Sanders dominate much of the present debate. Younger folks especially seemed to be enthralled with this or that new policy proposal.

Papola and Emergent Order are prepared to offer an alternative voice, that classical liberalism’s Dean, the last knight of Austrian Economics, Ludwig von Mises. Mises is pitted against his great intellectual foe, Karl Marx, arguably the most important thinker of the last two centuries.

Marx is in vogue, even if those espousing his views aren’t quite aware of his intellectual and real-world legacy. Papola takes us through that crazy experience during his first foray into economics education and how it blew up, and then why he believes now is the perfect time for another groundbreaking attempt to frame the debate again at this critical point.
