Davos Fangirling, Funding Protocol Developers

Davos, Switzerland is the home to movers and shakers of the world. They’ve been meeting for at least a half-century under the WEF rubric. Swiss native Eléonore Blanc was summoned there by a group looking for a cryptocurrency expert to moderate panels and give talks. It turns out, the crypto community runs a kind of parallel conference during the giant gathering.

She was able to meet a personal hero, whistleblower Brittany Kaiser of Cambridge Analytica fame. Kaiser’s work exposed how private data was repurposed from Facebook users, for example, and how it might’ve impacted elections around the world. Since, she’s participated in online activism called #OwnYourData and even was an integral part of the Netflix documentary, The Great Hack.

Blanc was thrilled to meet Kaiser, but was in Davos for work, helping to bridge the gap between public and private blockchains, and attempting to connect businesses to the power of cryptocurrency. Blanc admits they’re not much beyond the token phase, and discusses why that might only be a transition period.

We also talk about the now-infamous Infrastructure Funding Plan for Bitcoin Cash (IFP) and its fallout. Blanc characterizes it as beautiful drama, a necessary part of being in cryptocurrency project important as peer-to-peer electronic cash for the world. The IFP, even with some notable faults or missteps, is an important conversation, one Blanc is happy we’re having.
