TL;DR: Bitcoin.com Exchange announced it was listing controversial ERC20 token HEX. Many took exception to the exchange apparently endorsing the project and by implication its controversial founder, Richard Heart. In a rare display of agreement, BTC maximalists and some in the Bitcoin Cash (BCH) community both voiced concern and perplexion at the decision to list HEX. Bitcoin.com Executive Chairman Roger Ver agreed to appear on Heart’s livestream as a result.
Bitcoin com Exchange Lists HEX: Roger Ver to Appear on Richard Heart’s Livestream
The last time the two men met was in late August of 2017. Back then, Bitcoin Cash had just forked from BTC, and was quickly gaining steam among peer-to-peer electronic cash enthusiasts keen to see lower transaction fees and faster confirmation times on their way to scaling for worldwide adoption. Richard Heart was the BTC maximalist’s maximalist: snide, condescending, dismissive. Roger Ver was a key ecosystem influencer in bringing many original Bitcoiners over to BCH, and something of a sworn enemy to maxis.
More than a quarter-million views and two and a half years later, Heart and Ver will meet again, live. Ver is still a BCH advocate, passionate, but no longer CEO of Bitcoin.com. Heart is no longer a BTC maximalist, and has turned completely toward so-called alternative coins, namely with the launching of his own controversial version, HEX.
They have two things in common now. They’re both rabidly hated by BTC maximalists and Bitcoin.com Exchange announced it will list HEX simply to “spite” maxis. Heart has continued to refer to Ver as misguided and BCH as a less than reputable alternative to BTC. Ver, for his part, hasn’t commented much about Heart or HEX. In recent weeks, however, Heart has called BTC maxis out for “lying” about the scaling debate that so divided he and Ver back in 2017.
