The Crypto Hustle With Eléonore Blanc

A lot of us in the space first encountered Eléonore Blanc during the BCH Hackathon in Amsterdam. It was late 2018, and hopes were high enough to reach out to other development communities. Devs from Ethereum and other projects joined peer-to-peer electronic cash enthusiasts, and the results are still being felt.

We talk about that experience and then pivot toward her being a citizen of Europe. Right now, the continent is experiencing the implementation of an anti-money laundering directive, known as AMLD5. It’s a sweeping statute. Exchanges will now have to keep close track of funds coming-in and leaving, as will any cryptocurrency business finding itself under the jurisdiction of the EU.

Blanc says it’s not all bad. Regulation in the space is inevitable, and might actually work to offer clarity for businesses to adjust and adapt going forward. We talk about how Americans and Europeans view regulations differently, especially with regard to libertarian-leaning circles.

We end on the subject of reconciliation. Scrapes and drama are par for the course in crypto, but rarely does it happen two camps find common ground and work together rather than just breaking off into new tribes. It looks like Roger Ver and Amaury Séchet might have put aside their public disagreement, at least for the moment.
